How is Hematology Different From Oncology?
The terms oncology and hematology are often mistakenly used interchangeably. Hematology refers to the branch of medicine focused on illness and conditions of the blood, bone marrow, and lymph nodes directly related to the blood. This may include clotting disorders, bone marrow issues, and white blood cells. Hematology may also refer to cancers of the blood and various forms of leukemia. Oncology is more specific to the diagnosis and treatment of cancers. Hematologists and Oncologists, when necessary, work in collaboration to ensure that you and your disease are receiving the most appropriate care and treatment for your diagnosis.
