Cervical Cancer Treatment
Cervical cancer is a cancer located in or on the cervix due to the abnormal growth of cells that may spread to other parts of the body. This is caused by a human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Diagnosis is typically by cervical screening (commonly referred to as a pap smear) followed by a biopsy of the cervical tissue.

Cervical Cancer Symptoms

Women are encouraged to have a pap smear every three years in their primary care setting. The results of this procedure will determine whether a biopsy or medical imaging should be done. You will likely then be provided with a referral to seek treatment.
Symptoms of cervical cancer are often hidden but may include vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain or pain during sexual intercourse. If you are experiencing any of these signs, we urge you to make an appointment with your primary care provider who can provide an oncology referral if they see fit.
